Occupational Therapy Resources

Occupational Therapists are medical professionals that work to improve a persons overall independence with activities of daily living (ADL) or instrumental activities of daily living (IADL). This is done through personalized engagement in every day functional tasks (occupations) to ensure safety, improve independence, support co-morbid diagnosis management and progress overall functioning. The term occupation refers to any task that a person completes throughout the day that brings meaning to their life (dressing, grooming, managing a home, raising a child, exercise, mobility, hobbies, work, school, etc.).

Occupational Therapists are trained in both physical and psychological interventions. Occupational therapy's history is rooted in mental health treatment and are viewed as a core member of mental health teams. This combination of training and therapeutic focus makes Occupational Therapists ideal medical professionals for the treatment of those with FND and their co-morbid symptoms. Occupational therapy utilization varies country to country, so access may vary depending on where you are located.
